Well the road was bumpy and extremely fast. It was our first experience purchasing a short sale. We had no idea what we were in for. Most everyone I spoke to that had purchased a short sale the house had been vacant. Not our case. The owners still lived in the house and were not happy to be leaving their house they had lived in for the past 8 years. They were the original owners.
What should have clued us in was the owners attitude every time we had to schedule a walk through, termite inspection, roof inspection, final walk through. The Mrs... had attitude. She questioned everything that we did - " why do we need a termite inspection", "why do we need an appraisal", "why do you need a roof inspection" " why why why"
It was Wednesday - 48 hours before we were set to close. We had scheduled a final walk through. First the house smelled horrible - like dog. They did have 4 dogs and I believe they had masked the smell a lot during our previous inspections with candles and sprays.
We walked into the house - and 90% of the house was not packed. This is a 5 bedroom 3000 sq ft home. How the heck did they expect to be packed and moved out by Friday at 5pm??!!! Plus the Mrs. was telling us how they could not take time off from work. So they basically needed to be out in 48 hours all while still working their 9-5pm jobs. Holy Smokes Batman.
To add fuel to the fire her agent tells his sellers in front of us that they should try their best and if they can't be out by 5pm they can only do their best. WHAT!!! wait hold on fellow, we will legally be the owners on Friday don't be telling the sellers they can take as long as they want. The Mrs was throwing her arms up upset in the front of the house questioning why we were not giving her more time. Are you serious?!!!
Ok I will spare the the next 48 hours of me acting like a lunatic with anxiety and wild thoughts and skip to the phone call on Friday from my agent.
ring ring... "Hi, good news is that the sellers are all out of the house.... bad news is they ran their car into the garage door". What the heck. that was not a cheap door it had to be custom ordered with the glass inserts.
So after back and forth conversation... I was told the door would be paid for and we didn't need to worry about it. Thank heavens.
sooo Friday at 5pm we got our keys and our house. Now it was time to rip all the flooring out and paint all the walls and clean clean clean......
